"उदेश्य के लिनु? उडी छुनु चन्द्र एक," the profound words of the renowned Nepali writer Laxmi Prasad Devkota, have been a guiding light in my life. Six decades ago, I was born into a middle-class family, and embarking on an entrepreneurial journey seemed like an unachievable challenge. My 33-year entrepreneurial journey has taught me that the universe offers a wealth of opportunities, but we can only seize a few of its wonders.
After graduating, the common question stressing most individuals is how to start their careers, what path to choose, and where to begin. However, I had a clear mission and vision for myself. I had unwavering optimism about launching my own business, but family pressures compelled me to become a school teacher. For a decade, I dedicated myself to teaching, but the entrepreneurial spark within me refused to vanish. In 1989, I founded Milan Garments, a garment manufacturing and export company. It took nearly three years of relentless effort and perseverance to establish a foothold in the competitive export industry. From that point onward, there was no turning back. Honesty, sincerity, patience, and continuity became my guiding principles, paving the path to my success.
My commitment extended beyond business; I was also willing to give out to the community development and women's empowerment. I actively supported initiatives such as the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs' Association Nepal, Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries, WEAN Multipurpose Co-operative Ltd.,
Nepal Wool Felt Producers & Exporters Association and currently Joint Secretary of the Fair-Trade Group of Nepal and Treasurer of South Asian Women Development Forum. Simultaneously, I am engaged in grassroots activities, including women empowerment, striving to uplift underprivileged women and help them attain independence and a better life. In my journey, I've learned a fundamental truth: When you selflessly support others, the universe reciprocates with boundless support. We can achieve success and make a positive impact on our communities. My journey, inspired by Devkota's poetic wisdom, has been an inspirational story when I share it among my families and friends.
In conclusion, my life's journey from a modest beginning to becoming a successful entrepreneur and advocate for women's empowerment has been driven by a clear sense of purpose. I firmly believe that as we strive to uplift others, the universe conspires to uplift us, creating a harmonious cycle of support and progress. The path may be challenging, but with unwavering commitment and the right values, we can overcome obstacles and leave a lasting legacy of positive change.
